Not fresh

Unfortunately it was not as I remember it. It was hard to chew, overaged and bitter-not even a tasty grated cheese.

Montasio Cheese

The Facts

Country: Italy
Milk Pasteurized cow
Age: 3 months+

Tasting Notes:

Montasio derives its name from the Montasio mountain range in the Friuli region, north of Venice where it was first produced by the Benedictine monks in the 13th century. It is aged for different variations of time producing a range of textures and flavours from mild to strong, creamy to dry.

When Montasio is really fresh, it is very mild and buttery. With age, it develops a fruity flavour and nuttiness with slightly piquant notes in the finish. Eventually, after 12 months or more, it’s texture allows it to become a grating cheese. It’s colour also tends to go from white to pale yellow as it ages. A very easy-to-eat Italian cheese, perfect with a handful of nuts or fresh fruit.

Pair with Sauvignon Blanc.

Our cheese mongers hand cut every cheese to order. We will always try to cut the exact weight ordered, however your piece might be slightly over or under the amount listed. But please know that we cut it freshly and specifically for you.

If you order several cheeses, we will usually make up for shortcomings on weight, if any, on the other cheeses ordered.

All cheeses are wrapped in special cheese paper and sealed to preserve freshness during transit.

Every order includes all the necessary thermal packaging and ice packs required for current weather conditions. Our main focus is getting the freshest product delivered to your door.
