Bad batch? Shipping issue? Extremely strong

I'm not sure what happened with this cheese. The other cheeses I got were fine. This one had an extremely strong smell and taste (yeah, I still tasted it) of ammonia.

La Madelaine

The Facts

Country: Quebec
Milk Type: Pasteurized sheep
Age: 2 months

Tasting Notes:

La Madelaine is a sheep’s milk brie style cheese made by La Fromagerie Nouvelle France in Quebec. The cheese maker, Marie-Chantal Houde, has combined the personality of the cheese with a woman’s name: Madelaine. It is by digging into her roots that she found Madelaine, the name of one of her ancestors, who arrived in New France in 1634.
It has a soft and flowery, bloomy rind which is completely edible. Its aromas
are fine and delicate with hints of fresh hay. The cheese is ripened for
four to eight weeks creating a soft, pasty interior that will get very runny
with age. Not a very strong cheese at it’s fresher stages, however upon
leaving it at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, the flavour begins to
intensify and the aromas become more pronounced.

Pairing Notes:
Dry Riesling, Sparkling Cider

Our cheese mongers hand cut every cheese to order. We will always try to cut the exact weight ordered, however your piece might be slightly over or under the amount listed. But please know that we cut it freshly and specifically for you.

If you order several cheeses, we will usually make up for shortcomings on weight, if any, on the other cheeses ordered.

All cheeses are wrapped in special cheese paper and sealed to preserve freshness during transit.

Every order includes all the necessary thermal packaging and ice packs required for current weather conditions. Our main focus is getting the freshest product delivered to your door.
